UPDATES WITH THE BOARD!

INTRODUCING OUR NEWEST TRUSTEE

Shannon Roussy-Sanchez

Hello! I am Shannon "Paraíso" Roussy-Sanchez.

I'm currently living in Fort Worth, Texas, working as an epidemiologist and public health enthusiast. I am passionate about public health education and addressing misinformation through improving health literacy.

I am also a doctoral candidate for my Doctorate in Public Health in Health Education and Promotion. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and hiking.

I crossed into SLG in 2013 at the TreasureD Tau Delta Chapter at Creighton University. I have been involved in SLG in many capacities across the years, from President of the Nebraska Alumni Association to Expansionary Committee Member as well as Task Forces. I'm excited to continue my passion and service to SLG through this new role as Education Foundation Trustee.

I look forward to this term and the goals the Education Foundation will accomplish.

With Distinction,

Shannon

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH

EDUCATE, EMPOWER & ADVOCATE

Happy Pride Month!

Pride Month is a time to honor the LGBTQ+ community, celebrate diversity, and advocate for equal rights. Here are some meaningful ways you can join in:

  1. Educate Yourself: Learn about LGBTQ+ history and issues. Read books by LGBTQ+ authors and watch documentaries that explore queer experiences.

  2. Support LGBTQ+ Businesses: Seek out and shop at queer-owned businesses. Your support helps foster economic empowerment within the community.

  3. Advocate for Equality: Take action by supporting LGBTQ+ rights organizations through donations or volunteering your time.

  4. Amplify LGBTQ+ Voices: Share stories and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals on social media to raise awareness and promote understanding.

  5. Celebrate with Pride: Attend local Pride events, parades, and festivals to show solidarity and celebrate diversity in your community.

  6. Be an Ally: Stand up against discrimination and actively support LGBTQ+ friends, family, and colleagues. Listen and learn from their experiences.

  7. Create Inclusive Spaces: Foster inclusivity at work, school, and within social circles. Ensure everyone feels respected and valued for who they are.

Remember, celebrating Pride is not just about one month—it’s about ongoing support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

Let’s continue to work together for a more inclusive world.

HONOR JUNETEENTH

Juneteenth is a celebration rooted in the liberation of enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, marking the belated arrival of emancipation news.

Juneteenth symbolizes the joyous moment of freedom and resilience in the face of historical oppression.

Today, Juneteenth serves as a cultural celebration of African American heritage, featuring traditions like music, food, and community gatherings. It also prompts reflection on the ongoing struggle for racial equality in the United States, emphasizing unity and the pursuit of justice. Read more on the history of JUNETEENTH
